John Witherspoon has passed away.
Actor and comedian John Witherspoon, who was well known for his role in “FRIDAY,” is no more with us. He died suddenly on Tuesday at his home in Sherman Oaks, California. His dismissal was announced by his family via Twitter. The tweet stated, “it is with deep sadness we have to tweet this, but our husband & father John Witherspoon has passed away.” The statement further continues,” he was a legend in the entertainment industry and a father figure to all who watched him over the years. We love you “POPS” always and forever. He started as a stand-up comedian and made his television debut in the 1970s.
He was best known for playing Ice Cubes’ dad in the “Friday” film series. Devastated by Witherspoon’s death, Ice cube wrote on Twitter, “I’m devastated over the passing of John Witherspoon,” he further wrote, “life won’t be as funny without him.” Marlon Wayans, in respect of his TV dad, wrote on Twitter, “I’m sad. Broken. Hurt..yet extremely grateful to God that I got to spend five years of my life working with one of the funniest, sweetest, wisest, humblest, loving men, he further expressed his gratefulness for the laughs they had and the time they spent.
Actress Regina King also expressed her sorrow on Twitter, and she wrote, “My dad, my grandpa, my comedic inspiration, “I love you spoons! Rest in paradise king. The two worked together on “Friday” and the animated show “The Boondocks,” which was about African American culture and politics.
